What Your Perfume Says About You

Does Your Fragrance Make You Seem Old?While many women update their wardrobe, their hairstyle, and even their make-up, they often don’t pay attention to their fragrance.  Believe it or not, a past-due perfume can date you just as fast as that eighties suit jacket with the shoulder pads.  I have a dear friend who has been wearing the same perfume for as long as I’ve known her (and that’s a long time!)  We had dinner the other night and I recognized her signature fragrance even before I saw her face.  It’s a pleasant enough smell, but it signals Sleep Hollow Rest Home.  So, here’s the deal.  Summer is on the way. In the heat, fragrances intensify.  So less is more.  Think light and citrusy – grapefruit, lemon, lime. I love Jo Malone’s mix and match perfumes, but you can get inexpensive options at your local drugstore.  The key is to remember what your perfume says about you – fresh and optimistic or swirling around the drain of mortality.

  • Hello, Judith.

I love Jo Malone’s mix and match perfumes, too. Reading this post has just reminded me of a fragment of a dream I had last night where I sprayed some ‘Charlie’ perfume on myself before going out. Even in the dream I knew it wasn’t a great idea – remember Charlie? It was very popular in my youth. I dare not analyse what it all means.

I love the blog, by the way – and good luck with the book launch.

Of course, I remember Charlie. They had one of the greatest ad campaigns of all time. It seems every generation of women grew up with a signature fragrance. My mother wore Tweed, and I had a long relationship with White Shoulders. Ah, but we must move on, mustn’t we. As for your dream, perhaps you were simply trying to recapture your youth — not a bad thing.

Glad you like my blog and thanks for the good wishes.

  • Less is more–yes! And good to remember. DKNY Be Delicious (while a dumber than dumb name) is a great summer choice.

    I’ll check it out, thanks.
