Test Your Proposed Book Title

I had the title for my novel long before I’d written a word.  It was an actual comment made years ago by one of my best girlfriends, so I was really commited to it.  When I pitched it to agents or other interested parties, I found they either loved it or hated it.  But it didn’t really matter.  My mind was made up.

Now, there’s a new free internet tool that will let you test your proposed title before you commit to it.  In the past, market research was usually too slow and too expensive to be useful to authors.  But with free tools like Survey Monkey, www.surveymonkey.com, you can easily test-market your proposed titles and subtitles. When testing titles, be sure to always offer a choice of two or three alternatives, and provide space for survey participants to suggest an additional title, if they want.  Then, you can  make an informed decision.
