Ready for your pitches!

Last weekend started for me early Saturday morning with WNBA’s Meet the Agents Pitchfest at Sinbad’s in San Francisco, where about fifty of us authors had three minutes each to pitch our books to sixteen agents representing various genres.  I pitched my second novel, “Staying Afloat”, the story of a devoted, stay-at-home wife and mother who morphs into a sex-starved adulteress.  Four agents asked for submissions, which is great.

Bright and early Sunday morning, I was off to Napa to attend the first ever Northern California Screenwriters Expo Pitchfest, where studio executives from Warner Bros., Dreamworks, and Lionsgate, along with producers from HBO and Lifetime and other movie production companies were accepting pitches.  Over one hundred authors, screenwriters, and actors gathered in the ballroom preparing their “loglines” and nervously pacing.  Here you had five minutes to describe your project, and hopefully be asked to leave your contact information.

When the time came, we were ushered into a separate ballroom where each company was represented.  I was there to pitch “Husbands May Come and Go but Friends are Forever,” as a movie.  I was surprised that I wasn’t more nervous. I guess I just believe in the book as a movie so much that it was easy to talk about it.

In the end, Lifetime took my proposal, along with a copy of my book, and SilverHeart Productions was also interested.

Since this was my first time, and I didn’t know what to expect, I’m quite pleased with the outcome.  Now the hard part of waiting to hear begins.   Wish me luck!  See you at the movies.
