  • Hi, I read your comments with interest. I am a published author with a small following thus far. My book is doing fairly well although I am definitely “in the red”.
    Any ideas would be helpful on publishing with a small publisher. I have just licensed a small Publishing LLC and it’s just on paper now, but I am considering marketing to those writers who have a difficult time getting a publisher. Regards, Frank

    Hi Frank,
    My take on using a small press (or starting one yourself) is that for first-time authors, even if you’re lucky enough to get a traditional publisher, they do little in the way of book promotion for you. What they do provide is distribution. But as the publishing world continues to change and more and more books are purchased online and as ebooks, distribution to brick and mortar book stores isn’t going to be so important. What’s important is marketing the book which includes all the avenues I’m sure you’re familiar with – identifying your target audience, getting a professional press release written and distributed, contacting independent book stores, building your online platform, etc. Since authors have to do all or most of the promotion, I think it matters less and less who the publisher is.
